VisitAlgeria’s Imane Khelif to Compete in Paris Olympics 66kg Welterweight Bout Against Angela Carini Amid Controversy
Aug 1, 2024, 07:36 AM
Algeria’s Imane Khelif has qualified to compete in the Paris Olympic Games after being disqualified from the 2023 International Boxing Association (IBA) finals for not meeting the organization’s eligibility requirements. Algeria's Olympic committee (COA) condemned 'baseless' and 'unethical targeting and maligning' attacks on Khelif amid scrutiny of her participation in the Olympics after her disqualification from a tournament last year for failing a gender eligibility test. The International Olympic Committee has since cleared Khelif on its gender test. On Wednesday, Khelif is set to compete against Italy’s Angela Carini in the women’s 66kg welterweight bout at the Paris venue.
