VisitAlec Baldwin to Stand Trial Next Week for Involuntary Manslaughter in 'Rust' Shooting of Halyna Hutchins
Jul 7, 2024, 04:45 AM
Nearly three years after cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was fatally shot on October 21, 2021, on the New Mexico set of the film 'Rust,' Alec Baldwin is set to go on trial for involuntary manslaughter. The trial, scheduled to begin next week, follows a series of legal battles and last-minute efforts to dismiss the case. New Mexico recently denied a film incentive application for 'Rust' following the incident. Baldwin's legal team and state prosecutors are debating whether jurors should hear that Baldwin was aware of the dangers of using real guns on film sets. Director Joel Souza was also wounded during the rehearsal. If convicted, Baldwin could face 18 months in prison.
