VisitAlec Baldwin Sues New Mexico Prosecutors for Malicious Prosecution and Civil Rights Violations After 'Rust' Case Dismissal
Jan 10, 2025, 01:07 AM
Actor Alec Baldwin has filed a civil lawsuit in Santa Fe, New Mexico, alleging malicious prosecution and civil rights violations following the dismissal of an involuntary manslaughter charge against him in July in the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of the movie 'Rust.' The lawsuit names special prosecutor Kari Morrissey, Santa Fe District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, and investigators from the Santa Fe County sheriff's office as defendants. Baldwin claims that the prosecutors and investigators intentionally mishandled evidence and sought to scapegoat him for the incident, despite the evidence and law. Last month, prosecutors dropped their appeal of the judge's ruling. Hutchins died after being wounded during a rehearsal in October 2021, when a pistol Baldwin was pointing discharged, killing Hutchins and wounding director Joel Souza. Baldwin has maintained that he pulled back the hammer but not the trigger, and the revolver fired.
