VisitAir Canada Flight Operated by PAL Airlines Catches Fire During Emergency Landing at Halifax Airport
Dec 29, 2024, 07:09 AM
An Air Canada flight, operated by PAL Airlines as Flight 2259, made an emergency landing at Halifax Stanfield International Airport after experiencing a landing gear malfunction. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. local time on Saturday, when the plane, arriving from St. John's with 77 people on board, skidded down the runway and caught fire. Passenger Nikki Valentine reported that one of the plane's tires did not deploy properly, causing the aircraft to tilt at a 20-degree angle and skid, resulting in a fire on the left wing. All passengers were safely evacuated and taken to a hangar for medical checks, with no serious injuries reported. The airport was temporarily closed following the incident but has since reopened one of its runways.
