VisitAGU Demands YouTube Remove False Health Claims About Lula, Hospitalized Since December 9, Within 24 Hours
Dec 13, 2024, 10:14 PM
The Brazilian government is taking action against the spread of false information regarding President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's health. The Attorney General's Office (AGU) has issued an extrajudicial notification to YouTube, demanding the removal of videos that disseminate misleading claims about Lula's condition. This follows a surge of disinformation on social media, including a fabricated death certificate and unfounded rumors about a body double. Lula has been hospitalized since December 9 at the Sírio-Libanês Hospital in São Paulo. The AGU's notification emphasizes that the content in question exceeds the boundaries of freedom of expression and must be removed within 24 hours. The government has also urged other social media platforms to eliminate similar false narratives.
