VisitAfter Six-Month Delay, DeepMind Releases AlphaFold 3 Code Under Non-Commercial License
Nov 11, 2024, 02:43 PM
DeepMind, a subsidiary of Google, has released the code and model weights for AlphaFold 3, its latest protein structure prediction software, for academic use under a CC BY-NC-SA license. The release includes the inference codebase, model parameters, and an on-demand server, allowing researchers to integrate AlphaFold 3 into their workflows. AlphaFold 3 can accurately predict diverse biomolecular interactions, including proteins, DNA, RNA, ligands, ions, and chemical modifications. The software supports protein-protein, protein-ligand, and protein-RNA predictions. This open-source availability, albeit restricted to non-commercial use, is expected to enhance scientific discovery by enabling the research community to build upon AlphaFold 3 for biological research and drug discovery. The release comes after a six-month delay following criticism for not providing the full code alongside its initial announcement. The scientific community is enthusiastic about leveraging these tools to accelerate biological research, with Nature quoting, 'We’re very excited to see what people do with this.'
