Sep 18, 2024, 10:50 AM
Australian Federal Police (AFP) have successfully infiltrated the encrypted messaging platform Ghost, which was allegedly used by organized crime networks for drug trafficking, money laundering, and orchestrating violent crimes such as murders and kidnappings. The operation led to the arrest of a 32-year-old Sydney man, Jay Je Yoon Jung, who is accused of being the mastermind behind the app. The global sting operation, coordinated with international law enforcement agencies including Europol, resulted in 51 arrests across multiple countries including Australia, Canada, Ireland, Italy, and Sweden. Authorities have seized significant quantities of drugs, including 128kg of methamphetamine, cocaine, and MDMA. The Ghost platform, previously considered 'unhackable' by its users, has now been dismantled, sending shockwaves through the criminal underworld. Dozens of suspects have been arrested.
