VisitAfghan National Tawhedi and Juvenile Charged in Oklahoma Election Day ISIS Terror Plot
Oct 8, 2024, 11:05 PM
The U.S. Justice Department announced the arrest of Nasir Ahmad Tawhedi, a 27-year-old Afghan national residing in Oklahoma City, who, along with a juvenile co-conspirator, is accused of plotting a terrorist attack on Election Day on behalf of ISIS. Tawhedi allegedly planned to target large crowds with a mass shooting, having acquired AK-47 rifles and ammunition from undercover FBI assets. He entered the United States in September 2021 on a Special Immigrant Visa following the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. According to the criminal complaint, Tawhedi and the juvenile met with FBI assets on October 7 to purchase the weapons and had planned to liquidate family assets and have his family flee to Afghanistan. The arrest was carried out by the FBI's Oklahoma City Field Office, and FBI Director Christopher Wray issued a statement on the operation. Tawhedi has been charged with providing material support to a terrorist organization and conspiring to receive weapons and ammunition.
