Afghan Ex-CIA Guard Arrested in U.S. for ISIS Plot; Mayorkas Declines Comment

An Afghan national who previously worked as a security guard for the CIA in Afghanistan has been arrested in the United States on charges of plotting an ISIS-inspired terrorist attack. The individual arrived in the U.S. in 2021 on humanitarian parole, a month after the chaotic withdrawal from Afghanistan. The FBI is investigating whether he was radicalized before or after his arrival. During a hurricane press conference, DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas declined to answer questions regarding the arrest, stating, "Your persistence in questioning can be matched by my persistence in answers."
