Jul 28, 2024, 07:55 PM
Great Britain's Adam Peaty, the world record holder in the men's 100m breaststroke, was aiming to make history by winning his third consecutive Olympic gold in the event at the La Defense Arena during the Paris 2024 Olympics. Peaty qualified for the final with the best time and was poised to join Michael Phelps as the only men to win the same race at three consecutive Olympics. However, in a dramatic finish, Italy's Nicolo Martinenghi claimed the gold medal with a time of 59.03 seconds, narrowly defeating Peaty and Nic Fink of the USA, who both tied for silver with a time of 59.05 seconds. Qin Haiyang, who was also in the final, did not make it to the podium. Despite missing out on the historic treble, Peaty's performance was celebrated, and he expressed pride in his achievement.
