VisitACC Dominates NCAA Baseball: FSU, UVa, UNC Secure CWS Spots with 3-0 in Supers
Jun 9, 2024, 09:56 PM
The Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) has demonstrated its prowess in the NCAA baseball tournament, with three of its teams securing spots in the College World Series (CWS) in Omaha. Florida State University (FSU) was the first to clinch a berth, defeating UConn 10-8 in a 12-inning thriller. This marks FSU's 24th trip to the CWS and its first since 2019. The University of Virginia (UVa) also secured its place, making it back-to-back trips and three in the last four years. The University of North Carolina (UNC) followed suit, holding on for a win against West Virginia to return to Omaha for the first time since 2018. The ACC will occupy three of the four Bracket One spots in the CWS, with North Carolina State and Clemson still in contention. ACC teams went 3-0 on the opening day of Super Regionals, and ACC teams are 18-1 when playing at home in this NCAA tournament. In a dramatic game, Florida defeated Clemson 10-7, with the Gators securing their spot in Omaha after a walk-off double in the 13th inning. Clemson's Cam Cannarella was a standout, hitting a game-tying three-run home run in the 9th inning and making a game-saving catch in the 10th. However, Clemson's season ended after their coaches were ejected in the 13th inning for a controversial bat flip celebration. FSU's success is attributed to coach Link Jarrett.
