VisitAboriginal Senator Lidia Thorpe Shouts 'You Are Not My King' at King Charles in Parliament
Oct 21, 2024, 06:10 AM
Independent Aboriginal Senator Lidia Thorpe interrupted King Charles III's address at Australia's Parliament House in Canberra, shouting 'You are not my King', 'This is not your land', and 'Give us our land back'. She also accused the monarch of having 'committed genocide against our people' and shouted obscenities including 'f--- the colony'. Wearing traditional clothing, Thorpe had a scuffle with police and security before being escorted out of the Great Hall. Thorpe later stated she intended to hand the King a 'notice of complicity in genocide'. The confrontation occurred during the King's first visit to Australia as monarch, where he delivered a speech addressing the First Nations people.
