Visit76ers' Joel Embiid Suspended Three Games After Shoving Reporter Marcus Hayes in Locker Room
Nov 5, 2024, 09:39 PM
Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid has been suspended three games without pay by the NBA after an altercation with Philadelphia Inquirer columnist Marcus Hayes. The incident occurred on Saturday night following the 76ers' loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, when Embiid confronted and then shoved Hayes in the team's locker room. The NBA launched an investigation soon after the incident. The suspension will cost Embiid $1,063,778 and begin when he is cleared to play, as he has yet to make his season debut due to health reasons. Embiid's suspension means he will miss the upcoming game against the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. NBA Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars emphasized the importance of mutual respect between players and the media, stating, "While we understand Joel was offended by the personal nature of the reporter’s column, interactions must remain professional."
