Visit6,500 Samsung Workers Begin Largest 3-Day Strike in Company History
Jul 8, 2024, 11:00 AM
Unionized workers at Samsung Electronics have initiated a three-day strike, marking the largest organized labor action in the company's half-century history. The strike, which began on Monday, involves over 6,500 workers demanding better pay and more vacation time. The National Samsung Electronics Union, representing approximately 30,000 members or 24% of Samsung's South Korean workforce, is spearheading the action. The union is calling for a 5.1% pay raise, an extra day of annual leave, and changes to the bonus system. Despite the strike, Samsung has maintained that there has been no disruption in production. Analysts suggest the strike is unlikely to have a significant impact due to low participation levels. However, the union claims that chip production has been affected.
