A magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck off the coast of El Salvador on Sunday, January 5, 2025. The epicenter was located 68 kilometers south of San Salvador, near the coast of La Paz department. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 33.1 kilometers, according to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (MARN). President Nayib Bukele reported the magnitude as 6.3. No immediate reports of damage or casualties have been reported, although the tremor was felt across much of the country, particularly along the coastal areas. The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) also reported a magnitude of 6.1 for the same event.
