Visit4-Year-Old Receives New England's First Partial Heart Transplant at Boston Children's Hospital
Jul 9, 2024, 04:30 PM
In May, 4-year-old Jack Mangan became the recipient of New England's first partial heart transplant at Boston Children's Hospital. The operation, designed specifically for children with valve defects, involved replacing two key parts of Jack’s heart and circulatory system with living tissues from the donor, including his aortic valve and a three-quarter-inch segment of his aorta. Seven weeks after the transplant, Jack appears to be fully recovered and is living in New Jersey. The world's first partial heart transplant took place in 2022 on a 17-day-old boy at Duke University.
