3,000-Year-Old Cheese Found on Chinese Mummies

Archaeologists have discovered the world's oldest cheese smeared on mummified remains in the Xinjiang region of China. The solid, curd-like pieces of cheese, which are over 3,000 years old, were found on the heads and necks of Bronze Age mummies. This discovery provides insights into the origins of the dairy product known as kefir. Scientists have also extracted DNA sequences from bacteria in the ancient cheese.
