Aug 6, 2024, 10:44 AM
Jordan Parlour, a 28-year-old man from Leeds, has been charged with using threatening words or behavior intended to stir up racial hatred online. The charges relate to Facebook posts made between August 1 and August 5, amid ongoing violent disorder in the UK. This marks the first instance of someone being prosecuted for social media posts linked to the current unrest. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) and Prime Minister have emphasized that online incitement will be targeted and prosecuted. Nick Price, director of legal services at the CPS, confirmed the charges and stated that the CPS is keen to show that online activity inciting violence will not be tolerated. West Yorkshire Police have been authorized to charge Parlour, who will appear in court soon.
