Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) workers in Virginia have overwhelmingly voted in favor of unionizing, with over 27,500 educators and operational staff now represented by the Fairfax Education Union (FEU). This historic victory marks the largest successful public sector collective bargaining campaign in over 25 years, according to the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). The unionization effort, which includes bus drivers and teachers, aims to improve pay, benefits, and working conditions for education workers. FCPS is the ninth-largest school district in the country. The AFT, representing 1.75 million members, has expressed strong support for the newly formed union, emphasizing the importance of collective bargaining rights and a sustainable future for public schools and their students.
