An Orthodox Jewish man was shot while walking to synagogue in Chicago's West Rogers Park neighborhood on Saturday. The suspect, identified as 22-year-old Mauritanian national, Sidi Mohamed Abdallahi, allegedly shot the visibly Jewish man, who was wearing a skullcap, and then fired at police and paramedics while shouting 'Allahu Akbar.' Abdallahi, an illegal immigrant who was released by Border Patrol in San Diego in March 2023, has been charged with attempted murder, terrorism, and hate crimes. Authorities found evidence on his phone indicating he planned the shooting to specifically target Jews.
