Jul 24, 2024, 06:10 PM
Hundreds of Jewish activists and pro-Palestinian demonstrators protested inside the Cannon Rotunda of the Cannon House Office Building on Tuesday, opposing U.S. weapons sales to Israel ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's address to Congress. The protesters, organized by Jewish Voice for Peace, wore red shirts with messages like 'Jews say stop arming Israel.' Approximately 200 activists were arrested by U.S. Capitol Police during the sit-in. Netanyahu's speech on Wednesday drew thousands of protesters outside the Capitol, calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. The Israeli Prime Minister received a record 58 standing ovations during his speech, which was boycotted by some Democratic lawmakers.
