Detroit-based Wolverine Packing Co. has recalled approximately 167,000 pounds (over 83 tons) of both fresh and frozen ground beef products due to possible E. coli contamination, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). The recall, announced on Thursday, affects beef shipped to restaurant locations nationwide. This action follows reports of at least 15 illnesses linked to the contaminated meat. This marks the fourth major food-borne illness-related recall in the United States in the past five months.
