Visit15-1 Shot Seize the Grey Wins 149th Preakness Stakes on Muddy Track, Trainer D. Wayne Lukas Sets Record
May 18, 2024, 07:07 PM
Seize the Grey, a 15-1 shot trained by 88-year-old D. Wayne Lukas, won the 149th Preakness Stakes on a muddy track at Pimlico Race Course. The horse went wire-to-wire to secure the victory, defeating Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan, who finished second. This win marks Lukas's seventh Preakness victory, making him the oldest trainer to win a Triple Crown race. Jockey Jaime Torres, who led Seize the Grey to victory, celebrated his first Preakness win. The race, which is the second leg of the Triple Crown, saw Seize the Grey close at 9-1 odds, making it one of the longer shots on the board. Seize the Grey also took home the Woodlawn Vase.
