Visit14 Attorneys General Sue TikTok Over Addictive Features, Harm to Children's Mental Health
Oct 8, 2024, 03:34 PM
A bipartisan group of 14 attorneys general from across the United States, including those from 13 states and Washington D.C., have filed lawsuits against TikTok. The lawsuits allege that the popular social media platform is designed to be addictive and harms the mental health of children and teenagers. The attorneys general claim that TikTok's features, which are intentionally addictive, contribute to issues such as anxiety, sleep loss, and body image problems among young users. They also accuse TikTok of misleading the public about the safety of its platform and violating consumer protection laws by collecting data without consent. D.C. Attorney General Brian Schwalb referred to TikTok as 'digital nicotine' for kids. New York is among the states involved in the lawsuits.
