NCAA Nears $2.8 Billion, 10-Year Settlement in House v. NCAA Case
May 21, 2024, 11:25 PM
The NCAA and major college sports conferences are nearing a historic $2.8 billion settlement in the House v. NCAA antitrust lawsuit. The settlement, which includes significant changes such as revenue-sharing with athletes and overhauling scholarship and roster limits, has been met with resistance from smaller conferences. The NCAA Board of Directors has approved the recommended funding plan, and the Board of Governors will meet to finalize the settlement. The Big 12 and ACC have already approved the settlement, with the Big Ten and Pac-12 expected to follow. Non-power conferences, however, are unhappy with the terms, as they will contribute to the damages without having a say in the agreement. The settlement will be paid over 10 years, and the Board of Directors' vote was 16-3-2. The initial approval was given on May 21, with further approvals expected by May 22.
