NATO to Coordinate Arms Deliveries to Ukraine, Led by General Cavoli
Jun 13, 2024, 06:21 PM
NATO has announced plans to take over the coordination of arms deliveries and military training for Ukraine, a role previously managed by the U.S. This move aims to ensure a steady flow of military assistance to Ukraine amid concerns about potential changes in U.S. policy if Donald Trump wins the upcoming presidential elections. NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg emphasized that supplying arms to Ukraine will become mandatory for all NATO member states, a shift from the previous voluntary contributions. The decision was made during a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels, where they approved an operational plan to enhance support for Ukraine. The coordination will be led by General Cavoli. Hungary promised not to veto the scheme as long as it is not forced to take part. However, NATO has not yet reached an agreement on a long-term financial pledge for Ukraine, with discussions ongoing about a proposed annual aid of $40 billion.
