Texas AG Ken Paxton Sues TikTok for Violating Texas Parental Consent Law by Sharing Minors’ Data
Oct 3, 2024, 09:04 PM
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against TikTok, accusing the social media platform of violating the state's new child-safety rules by sharing minors' personal data without parental consent. The lawsuit alleges that TikTok has been sharing children’s personal identifying information without obtaining consent from their parents or legal guardians, in breach of the Texas Parental Consent Law, which aims to protect children online. Paxton stated, "I will hold them accountable for exploiting Texas children and failing to prioritize minors’ online safety and privacy."
