Special Counsel Weiss Says Biden's Pardon of Hunter Undermines Justice System in Final Report
Jan 14, 2025, 12:19 AM
Special Counsel David Weiss released his final report on the investigations into Hunter Biden on Monday, a 27-page document defending the impartiality of his work and criticizing President Joe Biden's pardon of his son. Weiss stated that the charges against Hunter Biden, which included gun and tax crimes, were the culmination of thorough, impartial investigations and not the result of partisan politics. He condemned the President's characterization of the prosecution as politically motivated, calling such remarks "gratuitous and wrong" and asserting that they undermine public confidence in the justice system. Weiss noted that "politicians who attack the decisions of career prosecutors as politically motivated when they disagree with the outcome undermine the public's confidence in our criminal justice system." He further emphasized that "eight judges across numerous courts have rejected claims that they were the result of partisan influence." Due to President Biden’s blanket pardon, which covers all offenses over the past 11 years, Weiss stated that he cannot make any additional charging decisions regarding Hunter Biden's conduct. Hunter Biden was found guilty of gun crimes and pleaded guilty to tax crimes but was pardoned by his father before sentencing.
