Georgian President Rejects October 26 Election Results, Cites Russian Influence, Calls for Protests
Oct 27, 2024, 05:21 PM
Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has refused to recognize the official results of the October 26 parliamentary elections, alleging widespread voter fraud and claiming the elections were influenced by a Russian special operation. Zurabishvili has called on citizens to join protests against the results, which she described as a total fraud. Opposition parties, including the pro-Western Coalition for Change and the United National Movement (UNM), have also refused to accept the election results, accusing the ruling Georgian Dream party of massive fraud and declining to take their seats in parliament and state funding. Zurabishvili announced a protest rally to be held on Monday at 7 PM in Tbilisi's Rustaveli, urging the public to stand against what she termed the subordination of Georgia to Russia.
