An explosion occurred at the Tupras oil refinery in Kocaeli, Turkey, during a routine training exercise. The incident, which took place on November 5, 2024, resulted in 12 employees sustaining minor injuries. The blast wave shattered windows in the surrounding areas. Despite the explosion, no casualties were reported. The local mayor confirmed that the explosion was part of a planned drill. The explosion took place at a major plant in Izmit Province. Following the incident, Borsa Istanbul halted trading in Tupras shares, which dropped by 3%. A fire also broke out at the refinery.
