VisitMicrosoft Purchases 485,000 Nvidia AI Chips, Outpacing Meta, ByteDance, and Tencent in 2024
Dec 18, 2024, 11:50 AM
Microsoft has significantly outpaced its competitors in acquiring Nvidia's advanced AI chips, purchasing 485,000 of the Hopper GPUs in 2024, according to estimates from technology consultancy Omdia. This figure is more than double that of its nearest rivals, including Meta, which acquired 224,000 chips, and ByteDance and Tencent, each of which purchased approximately 230,000 chips. The substantial acquisition positions Microsoft favorably in the competitive landscape for AI development, particularly as demand for Nvidia's chips continues to exceed supply, enhancing Microsoft's capabilities in building next-generation AI systems.
