U.S. Sanctions IRGC and GRU Affiliates for Interfering in 2024 Election

The U.S. Treasury Department has imposed new sanctions on entities linked to Iran and Russia for their alleged interference in the 2024 U.S. election. The targeted organizations include a subsidiary of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), known as the Cognitive Design Production Center (CDPC), and a Moscow-based affiliate of Russia's Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU), the Center for Geopolitical Expertise (CGE). According to the Treasury, these entities aimed to stoke socio-political tensions and influence the U.S. electorate. The sanctions are part of broader efforts to counter foreign malign influence and protect U.S. democratic processes.
