Ukraine Alleges Russia Executed Surrendered Drone Pilots in Kursk Region
Oct 13, 2024, 12:25 PM
Ukraine has accused Russian forces of executing unarmed Ukrainian prisoners of war, including drone pilots, who had surrendered in the Kursk region. According to reports, the Ukrainian soldiers ran out of ammunition, surrendered, were stripped, forced to lie on the ground, and shot in the head while in their underwear. The alleged executions constitute a grave violation of international humanitarian law and the laws and customs of war. Executions of Ukrainian POWs are reportedly becoming more frequent, with the United Nations reporting that 95% of Ukrainian prisoners of war are subjected to torture and denied basic needs and access. Russian state TV presenter Sergei Mardan reportedly confirmed the execution and commented that it was 'good'. Ukrainian officials warn that this brutality not only threatens Ukraine but poses a threat to European security as well.
