Ukraine's Largest 2025 Attack: Over 200 Drones Hit Russian Chemical Plants

In a major escalation, Ukraine launched a large-scale drone and missile attack on multiple regions in Russia overnight on January 14, 2025. Ukrainian forces reportedly used over 200 drones and at least 15 ATACMS missiles to target military and industrial facilities up to 1,100 kilometers deep inside Russia. Key targets included the Bryansk Chemical Plant in Bryansk, the Aleksinsky Chemical Plant in the Tula region, the Orgsintez chemical plant in Kazan, Tatarstan, and oil depots in Engels, Saratov region. The attacks resulted in fires at strategic sites, including chemical plants and oil facilities, and led to school closures in some Russian cities. Russian officials reported intercepting over 200 Ukrainian drones and several missiles, including U.S.-made ATACMS and U.K.-made Storm Shadow missiles, though some struck their targets. Airports in several Russian cities, including Kazan, Kaluga, Saratov, Tambov, Penza, Nizhnekamsk, and Ulyanovsk, were temporarily closed due to the attacks.
