Allen and Parker Elected to Baseball Hall of Fame with 13 and 14 Votes
Dec 9, 2024, 01:03 AM
Dick Allen and Dave Parker have been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame by the Classic Baseball Era Committee. The announcement was made on Sunday during the Winter Meetings in Dallas. Allen, who passed away in 2020, was a seven-time Major League Baseball All-Star and the American League Most Valuable Player in 1972 with the Chicago White Sox. His son, Richard Allen Jr., expressed emotion upon hearing the news, saying, "You're a Hall of Famer now, Dad, and the world knows it." Parker, nicknamed "The Cobra," was a former outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates and a seven-time All-Star who won the National League MVP award in 1978. After a long wait for recognition, Parker expressed gratitude for his induction. Both players received the necessary votes from the 16-member committee, with Parker receiving 14 votes and Allen receiving 13, surpassing the 75% threshold required for induction. The induction ceremony is scheduled for July 27 in Cooperstown.
