OpenAI has developed a new AI model named GPT-4b micro in collaboration with Retro Biosciences, a longevity research company, to enhance the efficiency of stem cell production. The model focuses on re-engineering Yamanaka factors, a set of proteins that can transform regular cells into stem cells. According to OpenAI, the model's suggestions have led to modifications of two Yamanaka factors, increasing their effectiveness by more than 50 times in preliminary tests. This project marks OpenAI's first foray into biological data modeling and aims to contribute to scientific discovery in longevity science. Retro Biosciences, funded by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman with $180 million, seeks to extend human lifespan by 10 years through such research.
