FAA Bans U.S. Flights to Haiti for 30 Days After Planes Hit by Gunfire
Nov 12, 2024, 08:05 PM
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced on Tuesday that it has banned U.S. airlines from flying to Haiti for 30 days after two commercial planes were struck by gunfire from gangs while attempting to land in Port-au-Prince on Monday. The affected planes include a Spirit Airlines flight from Florida and a JetBlue plane. The ban applies to flights operating under 10,000 feet. The United Nations has also temporarily suspended flights to Port-au-Prince, limiting humanitarian aid efforts amid the country's escalating violence and a looming famine. Airlines such as Spirit, JetBlue, and American Airlines had already canceled flights to Haiti due to security concerns.
