China Detains Four Taiwanese Employees at Apple Supplier Foxconn's 'iPhone City' Factory
Oct 10, 2024, 09:38 AM
Chinese authorities have detained four Taiwanese employees at a Foxconn facility in Zhengzhou, known as "iPhone City," for alleged breach of trust, according to the Wall Street Journal and Taiwanese officials. The facility manufactures products for Apple. Taiwan's Mainland Affairs Council, which handles policy toward Beijing, described the allegations as "bizarre" and warned that improper detention could severely damage investor confidence in China. The detentions are the latest example of corporate detentions that have hurt business confidence. The incident has also raised concerns about the effectiveness of Beijing's economic stimulus efforts if companies and consumers lack confidence.
