Apple to Pay $95 Million to Settle 2019 Lawsuit Over Siri Privacy Violations
Jan 2, 2025, 11:03 PM
Apple has agreed to pay $95 million to settle a class-action lawsuit filed in 2019, alleging that its voice-activated assistant Siri violated user privacy by recording conversations without consent. The lawsuit claimed that Siri was unintentionally activated and captured private conversations, which were then shared with third parties, including advertisers. The preliminary settlement was filed in the Oakland, California federal court and requires approval by the U.S. District Court. As part of the settlement, Apple must delete Siri audio recordings from before October 2019. Affected users may be eligible for compensation.
