VisitMeta Reintroduces Facial Recognition to Fight Celebrity Scam Ads and Aid Account Recovery
Oct 22, 2024, 01:35 AM
Meta Platforms Inc. is testing the reintroduction of facial recognition technology via video selfies on Facebook and Instagram to combat rising "celeb-bait" scams that misuse images of celebrities and public figures in fraudulent advertisements. The technology is also aimed at enabling quicker recovery of compromised user accounts through video selfie verification. This move comes three years after Meta shut down its previous facial recognition software in 2021 amid privacy concerns and regulatory pushback.
