NYPD Chief Jeffrey Maddrey Resigns Amid Allegations of Demanding Sex for Overtime from Lt. Quathisha Epps, Manhattan DA Investigates
Dec 21, 2024, 05:39 PM
Jeffrey Maddrey, the highest-ranking uniformed officer of the New York City Police Department, resigned abruptly on Friday night amid allegations of sexual misconduct. The accusations, made by Lieutenant Quathisha Epps, claim that Maddrey demanded sexual favors in exchange for overtime opportunities. Epps, who worked in an administrative capacity in Maddrey's office, alleges that the demands started after Maddrey was promoted to Chief of Department in June 2023. She claims to have received over $400,000 in overtime pay, including $204,000 for 1,626 overtime hours, which she suggests was used as 'hush money.' Epps filed for retirement and was subsequently suspended. She has also filed a complaint against the city with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The NYPD stated that it takes all allegations of sexual misconduct seriously and will conduct a thorough investigation. Following Maddrey's resignation, Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch appointed John Chell as interim Chief of Department and Philip Rivera as interim Chief of Patrol. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office has also opened an investigation into the allegations against Maddrey.
