Scholz Calls CDU Lawmaker's Putin Meeting Claim 'Deeply Indecent'; Government May Sue
Jan 5, 2025, 02:23 PM
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has firmly denied claims by CDU foreign policy expert Roderich Kiesewetter that he plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow before Germany's federal election. Scholz called the allegations "false" and "deeply indecent," stating, "This is false. Such things should not be said." SPD General Secretary Matthias Miersch also dismissed the claims. The German government is reportedly considering legal action against Kiesewetter for spreading false information. Kiesewetter had suggested there were "increasing signs" of a possible meeting. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov corroborated Scholz's denial, stating that there are currently no plans for Putin to meet with Scholz.
