CDC: 3 Women Contract HIV from 'Vampire Facials' at Unlicensed NM Spa, 59 Exposed
Apr 26, 2024, 04:00 PM
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has confirmed the first known cases of HIV transmission through cosmetic injections at an unlicensed spa in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The cases involve three women who contracted HIV after undergoing 'vampire facials,' a procedure popularized by celebrities like Kim Kardashian. This procedure involves drawing blood from the patient, processing it, and re-injecting it into the face. The spa has been identified as the source of the infections due to non-sterile practices. Health officials have indicated that as many as 59 women could have been exposed to HIV at this facility, and five HIV patients were identified as patrons of the spa.
