IOC to Replace 10 Olympic Medals Lost by Swimmer Gary Hall Jr. in LA Wildfires That Claimed 24 Lives
Jan 13, 2025, 03:19 PM
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has announced that it will replace the 10 Olympic medals lost by American swimmer Gary Hall Jr. in the recent Los Angeles wildfires. The fires, which have claimed 24 lives, destroyed Hall's home and all his possessions, including the medals he won across three Olympic appearances from 1996 to 2004. These include five gold, three silver, and two bronze medals. IOC President Thomas Bach expressed solidarity with the citizens of Los Angeles and admiration for the efforts of firefighters. The IOC will provide Hall with replicas of his lost medals.
