King Felipe VI Awards Queen Sofía the Toisón de Oro for Dedication to Spain and the Crown
Jan 10, 2025, 08:54 AM
King Felipe VI of Spain has awarded the Order of the Golden Fleece, known as the Toisón de Oro, to his mother, Queen Sofía, in recognition of her dedication and service to Spain and the Crown. The royal decree, published in the Official State Gazette (BOE) on January 10, 2025, was signed on October 29, 2024, by Vice President María Jesús Montero, acting on behalf of President Pedro Sánchez. The Toisón de Oro, established in 1429 by Duke Philip III of Burgundy, is a prestigious honor traditionally linked to the Spanish monarchy. Queen Sofía joins an elite group of recipients, including her granddaughter, Princess Leonor, who received the honor in 2018.
