Eight Dead, 45 Injured in Florida Bus Crash on West Highway 40 Involving Migrant Workers
May 14, 2024, 03:31 PM
At least eight people have died and 45 others were injured after a bus carrying 53 migrant farm workers crashed and overturned on West Highway 40 in Marion County, Florida. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning as the bus was transporting workers to a watermelon farm. Local authorities, including the Florida Highway Patrol and Marion County Fire Rescue, confirmed that eight of the injured are in critical condition. Emergency crews responded to the scene, and a mass casualty incident was declared. The bus collided with a pickup truck, but there is no immediate indication that weather was a factor. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
