Microsoft to Open Azure Data Center in Thailand, Backed by PM Srettha Thavisin
May 1, 2024, 04:35 AM
Microsoft is expanding its presence in Southeast Asia with a series of strategic moves in artificial intelligence and data center development. The tech giant has announced plans to open its first regional data center in Thailand, marking a significant investment in the country's AI infrastructure. This initiative aligns with the Thai government's push to accelerate a digital-first, AI-powered future, as stated by Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin. In addition to the data center, Microsoft's CEO Satya Nadella is actively promoting AI technologies in other major Southeast Asian cities including Jakarta, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur. These efforts are part of a broader competition between the U.S. and China over technological influence in the region. The new facility will be an Azure data center.
