Ukraine Repels 20th Drone Attack on Kyiv; Strikes Russian Oil Facilities Amid Record Drone Warfare

In October, Russia intensified its drone attacks on Ukraine, launching a record 2,023 drones, including Shahed-type and unidentified strike UAVs, according to the Ukrainian General Staff. Ukrainian air defenses successfully intercepted 1,185 of these drones, while 738 were lost in location, 14 were taken down using electronic warfare systems, and 29 left Ukrainian airspace. Since the beginning of 2024, Russia has launched 6,987 drones against Ukraine. On October 31, Russia attacked Kyiv for the 20th time that month, with Ukrainian air defenses shooting down all drones overnight. Only one day in October passed without air raid sirens over the capital. In response, Ukraine carried out drone strikes deep into Russian territory. On October 31, Ukrainian drones attacked multiple energy enterprises in Bashkortostan, including the Bashneft-Ufaneftekhim oil refinery in Ufa, causing temporary evacuation of employees and delays at Ufa airport. Flights at Ufa airport were delayed. Drone debris also hit an apartment building in Bryansk. Local authorities reported that over 80 Ukrainian UAVs targeted areas within Russia overnight, with Russia's military claiming it neutralized 83 Ukrainian drones across multiple regions, including Kursk, Bryansk, Crimea, Belgorod, and Voronezh. On November 1, Ukrainian attack drones struck an oil depot in Svetlograd, Stavropol Krai, setting multiple tanks alight. No casualties were reported in these attacks.
