Ukrainian Drones Strike Only Operational Novoshakhtinsk Oil Refinery in Rostov Region on December 19, Causing Large Fire
Dec 19, 2024, 08:15 AM
On December 19, Ukrainian drones targeted the Novoshakhtinsk Oil Refinery in Russia's Rostov region, igniting a large fire at the facility. The attack was confirmed by Ukraine's General Staff, which stated that the operation was a collaboration between the Navy and the Security Service of Ukraine. The Novoshakhtinsk refinery is the only operational oil refinery in the Rostov region, supplying fuel to the Russian military, and has a processing capacity of 7.5 million tons of oil annually. Local officials reported that the fire resulted from explosions that lasted over an hour. This facility had previously been attacked in June 2024, leading to a temporary halt in operations until August. Emergency responders are currently on-site, and information regarding any casualties is still being clarified.
