Federal Judge Blocks Alabama from Purging 3,000 Voters Ahead of Election
Oct 16, 2024, 07:22 PM
A federal judge in Birmingham, appointed by former President Donald Trump, has blocked Alabama from purging more than 3,000 voters from the rolls ahead of the upcoming presidential election. Judge Anna Manasco ruled on Wednesday that the state must stop removing voters based on its belief that they are non-citizens, as this process has been shown to be largely incorrect. The judge highlighted that Secretary of State Wes Allen announced the purge program to begin 84 days before the election, which is too close to the election date. The state had a 63% error rate on the list of more than 3,200 voters it flagged as potential non-citizens.
